Guest drive in the Max5 Championship Oulton ParkBoB Marsh - Last modified: 1st Jun 2009Guest drive for Paul in the Max5 Championship Oulton Park Whilst Paul was using the meeting at Oulton Park as a test day for his Ginetta G50 he was also competing in the Max5 Championship races, giving him a busy day. The car had recently had work done to the body and was sporting a new paint colour scheme ready for the next round of the Ma5da Racing MX5 Championship at Donington Park over the weekend of 6/7 June. The first race was combined with the Performance and Economy Chip Tuning Sports and Saloon Cars class C and F and he started form ninth on the grid as the second MX5. MX5 pole was held by Paul Roddison in a Turbo charged car. Paul was quickly away and soon in front of Paul Roddison who was able to take advantage of the extra power on the straights but was losing it through the corners. As the race progressed Paul was able to pull away slowly from car 25, driven by Roddison, and on lap four he became the leading MX5, this was however, short lived as on lap five an error at Druids saw him come off the circuit whilst trying to pass Paul. This left Paul well clear of the remainder of the field to come home an easy winner of the class. The second race was an all MX5 affair with the grid positions being the same as race one. Again Paul dominted from the start and was quickly away from Paul Roddison with no challenge coming from anywhere else. As the race progressed Paul was able to use his experience to keep ahead of the field but on lap seven car 25 moved out to pass Paul but misjudged everything going onto the grass and spinning across the ciruit, hitting Paul and sending him into the tyre wall damaging the steering in the process. Car 25 was unable to carryon but Adam Morgan took up the challenge. Adam caught and passed Paul on lap nine before spinning off the circuit on the final lap leaving Paul to win in his damaged car. Not an ideal days MX5 racing with the car receiving a substantial amount of damage, however, it will be repaired ready for the Ma5da MX5 Championship next round at Donington. |
