Track Day Donington Park

28th Apr 2007

The team gathered at Donington on Saturday in order to test ahead of the opening round of the MaX5 Championship on Sunday 29th April.

This was an opportunity for Andy Boulton to get to grips with the guest car he would drive the next day in his first race. In his own words Andy had a tremendous day, improving all the way through ensuring he felt confident for the imminent race.

Steve Price had a mixed day in his own mind as he pushed hard to find his pace. However, as the day progressed he managed to find better performances after borrowing a brake caliper from Paul Sheards car to replace a sticky unit on his car.

Justin Newman had a good morning and was able to find good speed in comparison with the rest of the field, the majority of which were also out testing this day. A clutch failure in the afternoon resulted in his day being cut short.

James Maxfield improved steadily throughout making good ground in his preparations for his first race. However, his day was not without incident as a fixing let go through Hollywood resulting in the bonnet coming up and hitting the windscreen. A major effort was made to locate and replace the hinge to ensure a race start the next day.

Ben Taylor only managed to get to the circuit in the afternoon after working with the BTC Racing team on the Lexus touring cars in the morning. Nether-the-less he performed admirably and was confident for the race the following day.

Paul Sheard took to the track for just one session in the morning backed up by one other in the afternoon. This proved enough to clock a time in the 1:28’s, a good sign for qualifying. Paul had more than enough work to do off track, keeping the rest of the team cars running. To this end he put in a sterling effort working late into the evening replacing a clutch on Justin’s car.
